Streatham Youth and Community Trust (SYCT)

SYCT (Streatham Youth and Community Trust) was established almost 70 years ago to meet the needs of local young people. We meet the needs of the local community through the provision of a wide range of activities focusing on education and training, personal development, support for disadvantaged groups, sport and the arts.  We provide high quality youth services and facilities to the children, young people and vulnerable adults from the following 3 locations in Streatham.

Main Office: Wellfield Centre – 16 Wellfield Road, London, SW16 2BD

The Homework Club is for young carers & children from Streatham primary schools. The club provides high quality academic support with homework by qualified tutors and youth workers in a comfortable and supportive environment. We pick up from school, provide a snack and drop off home).

We provide the same activities as all the other clubs but with highly trained staff for special needs. The staff provides the members with a boost in self-esteem, life and socialising skills.

SYCT also runs many other classes from third party instructors (Zumba, Pilates, Street Dance for young people and adults, Freestyle Dance for children, Whizzdance, Group Guitar Lessons and Escrima Lessons). For more information call our main office at Wellfield Centre.

SYCT also recently secured funding for a new project ‘This Girl Can Lambeth’

It is an exciting time of growth for our charity and we have employed a new Community Sports Activator, Cherrell Albert (Chez), who will oversee the project alongside our SYCT CEO Angela Foran.

Chez’s main focus will be to get girls and women aged 14 – 25 more active and taking part in regular sports and physical activity. She will do this in several ways – through delivery of sports and physical activity sessions yourself, through organising external coaches to deliver sports and physical activity sessions from SYCT facilities, through organising sports pop up events and through supporting existing clubs to develop girls and women’s sections or attract more girls and women to their sessions. Chez will also line manage a Sports Activator Apprentice.

The Club is for Parents/Carers and children ages 0-5 years old and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1-3pm.  John Massingham, new manager of both the Adventure Playground and One O'clock Club said: 'we are delighted to offer this service to local families.  It is up and running and already parents and children are dropping by. The building is completely refurbished.'

The service will run alongside the longstanding Adventure Playground, which runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3:30-6:30pm and Saturday 12-4pm. The provision is part of Lambeth Council's Cooperative Youth and Play Provision Phase 2.  With low levels of provision in Streatham South Ward, both the Adventure Playground and One O'clock Club are a real asset to the area.
