STREATHAM ACADEMY FC PLEDGE SUPPORT TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE AT RISK OF CRIME AND VIOLENCE INTO SPORT
H.M.Hussein is a British citizen of Somali origin, who moved to the UK in 1999 with my grandma and brother, fleeing the civil war. The war left a lasting impact on Mr Hussein and many others. in the UK he began to study and participate in sports activities and later joined a local club in Streatham, Waaberi FC.
This was a Somali run club, a charity, with diverse people from all over London. It offered youth football as well as the facility to educate and mentor during the holidays. There were opportunities for youngsters to learn skills and be promoted as well as taking part in trips in the UK and abroad.
Having witnessed all that and experienced it first, Mr Hussein decided to take the step of changing things for the future generation of kids. He decided to stand up and give people, mainly local youth, the opportunity to choose sport over crime.
This is the drive behind Streatham Academy, which works with young people from 5 years old up to 25 years old. Running the Academy however does cost money and help is needed from the community.
The money that STREATHAM ACADEMY FC raises will be used to create a better environment for them to excel, especially in sports.
Funds will be used to hire pitches and buy equipment, club uniform and match kits, giving our players a sense of pride in themselves and their club. The funds would also allow the Academy to participate in a local football league, to continue to build the skills of our volunteers and to promote some of our senior players to become coaches and mentors.
The aim is to bring disadvantaged young people up to a level where they are competing effectively with their peers. Just as importantly, we strive to bring the community together.
Without funding the Streatham Academy have struggled day to day and the support of the Streathamites is neeed.
