The owner of a property in Rydal road has submitted plans to demolish the existing dwelling and erect a new three storey (plus basement) building to provide 5 self contained flats with provision for only 1 off street parking space. This proposal, if approved, is detrimental to the Streatham Park Garrard Road Conservation and residential area.

Concerned residents who wish to review the plans can do so at the Brixton Tate Library, Town Planning Advice Centre or online. Petitions to the council to reject these plans will need to be submitted before 20th October 2010. Please voice your objection to these plans and help to maintain the area as a peaceful place to live.

Previous objections include:

The property is in a conservation area and the development does little to maintain similarity with other as-built single occupancy homes in Rydal Rd

The proposal is a substantial overdevelopment of the site

The proposal creates additional and adverse load on local services including 126 year old sewage, water, telecommunication and parking

The disturbance excavation will cause to adjacent properties and a possible increase in subsidence to these properties and immediate area

The development is out of character in a conservation area

The development meets the owners commercial needs and contributes little to the local community

General increase in disturbance from 5 flats comprising 8 bedrooms from what is substantially a quiet residential area

The requirement is for a more modest proposal to reinstate the single dwelling or for at most 3 flats.
