Problem Rubbish Dumping in Streatham Hill

We have a problem with household waste being dumped on street corners in the Leigham Court conservation area. It is making the area look awful and is a constant problem. This morning we have 3 double mattresses, cupboards and a load of bin bags at the end of the road.

Does anyone have any advice as to how we can address this problem?

A couple of suggestions. You can email Lambeth council: [email protected] and they should arrange for removal. You could also ask them to make regular checks themselves (if local councillors aren't doing so). A good website also allows you to upload pictures, and they will pass on the issue to Lambeth council. This is good, because it helps bring some public accountability, and keeps a public record so you can show how often it is happening. Jonathan

Cheers for the swift response Johnathan,

We've just uploaded to fixmystreet - looks like a handy website, thanks for the tip - we'll let you know how successful it is.

We used to have a direct link to FixMyStreet and an RSS feed of the latest items reported in Streatham on the front page of our site.

Unfortunately, one or two users of FixMyStreet used inappopriate and/or borderline racist language and these were sitting on our page unmoderated, causing some people to think we endorsed the comments, so reluctantly we took the link down.

We'll publish the Fix My Street link as a news story instead so that it is more obvious on the site.

I know that the Leigham Court Estate has a longstanding problem of fly-tipping on those corner site - I think some cowboy contractors use the route through the estate as a rat run. I've included contact details for your Streatham Hill ward councillors below.

Robert Doyle

Chair, Streatham Action

Streatham Hill

Add Streatham Hill councillors to your addressbook by scanning this barcode with your mobile phone.

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

Wow - that's a lot of stuff dumped there (looking at the picture). I've found fixmystreet really useful. The Green Party in Streatham use it alot, and we also sometimes cover what progress has been made (or hasn't!) here: so people know what's going on/ what's been sorted/ what hasn't/.
