The Street Trees Coalition has managed to get $67,500 of funding from the Mayors Street Tree Initiative to plant 300 trees in Streatham. Members of the public have nominated over 60 streets for tree planting – across the whole of Streatham.
However, in order to secure these funds they need to raise 50% matching funding (The total cost of the trees is $135,000 which includes three years of pruning, watering, feeding and insurance to replace any vandalised trees).
Summer Harvesting Workshop for Families
Streatham Action joined forces with Streatham Food Festival and Streatham Common Community Gardens to hold a Family Summer Harvesting Workshops at the Streatham Food Festival last weekend, Sunday 18 August. The produce of the morning workshop was used by the head chef at The Manor Arms later in the day at the demonstration tent at Streatham Green.
Do you have a residents group on your road or estate that would be interested in growing edible plants or trees?
Streatham Action’s Active Streatham Project has funding from The Mayor’s Outer London Fund to provide planters, compost and plants. Master Gardeners and Streatham Common Community Garden will offer training on plant care, harvesting etc.
This is available to community groups in Streatham who agree to care for and maintain the plants and planters.
Streatham Action (through the Active Streatham project) is developing a new website. This will offer community groups like yours the opportunity to promote your group and activities on your own webpage.
We would like to invite you to register for the directory. If you complete and return this form before 16 September 2013 Streatham Action will upload background details to get you started. You will then be responsible for updating your page.
We’re looking for friendly local people to join our team, specifically to support the Streatham Food Tour on 16 and 17 August. As a Food Tour Guide, you'll get to wear a fab festival-branded apron and hat while hanging out on the High Road, pointing people in the direction of participating restaurants and handing out scorecards and festival programmes. We've got a huge box of Divine Chocolate to reward all involved, and you'll get to be part of the fantastic team delivering this year's festival. Sound tempting? Get in touch!
