2018 Streatham Common Kite Day

<p>The 20th Streatham Common Kite Day will now take place on the 2nd of September 2018 from 11am until 5pm. </p> <p>The original date for the event had set for the 13th May. Unfortunately, a number of events linked to adverse weather conditions of February and March mean that the common is deeply waterlogged and will need more time to recover. For this reason, public event on the ground had to be either cancelled or postponed.

Operation Sceptre Weapons Sweeps in Streatham

<p>Operation Sceptre is a London-wide Metropolitan Police initiative which aims to reduce knife crime, as well as the number families affected by knife crime. It seeks to target not only those who carry and use knives, but also the supply, access and importation of weapons.</p> <p>If you have attended local Safer Neighborhoods Ward Panel meetings over the past year or so will know that the local police regularly carry out weapon sweeps on the housing estates in the Ward.

Update on burst water mains in the Streatham area

Thames Water says that it is “taking longer than expected to restore supplies to homes” not only in the SW16 area, but also in SW12, SW15 and SW17. As of this morning, Streatham was being specified by Thames Water as a “priority” for them.

Unfortunately, as quickly as some problems have been rectified in Streatham other new issues have been arising.

Many residents have been severely impacted by no water in their homes since Saturday.  Whilst some see water coming back on stream, others have experienced new cut-offs to supply. 

Streatham High Road roadworks update

I was requested to attend – and once again at very short notice – a follow-up meeting at Lambeth Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon, which had been convened by LBL and TfL. Two central Streatham councillors, Cllrs Mohammed Seedat and Saleha Jaffer, were also in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was not only to update us all on the anticipated completion date for the emergency sewage repairs, but also to provide us with detail as to the various stages involved in the upcoming St Leonard’s Junction improvement works.
